GET WELL MTA!

So, Hurricane Sandy was rather destructive in our beloved New York City leaving a lot of us flooded, without electricity, without cell phone reception, and without transportation.  I am lucky that my area of Brooklyn survived practically untouched, and my heart goes out to those whose homes were damaged or destroyed.  As much as we are all annoyed by our oftentimes overcrowded, poorly run metro system, to be without said metro system is sooo much worse.  So as an homage to our overpriced railway, I am sending her a get well soon with Nina Boesch’s lovely New York inspired artwork created with none other than our discarded Metro Cards.   Each mosaic is created with sliced up cards carefully pieced together to create various New York landscapes and portraits.  Her artwork has been displayed in local spots such as The Beach coffee shop in the East Village as well as well as places such as the Time Warner Center aaaannnnd can be purchased for prices ranging from $130 up to $1000.  And so to our beaten, battered, and drowned metro system, WE STILL LOVE YOU!  Please get well soon.

How to Be Sneaky???

I’m not one for being sneaky….Actually, I lie. I LOVE being sneaky! But this little clip from Net-a-Porter of Garance Dore explaining how to sneak you and your friends into a party is absolute genius…so fun, and funny. I would say don’t try this, but you totally should.

Current Obsessions: Jean-Luc Godard

After seeing Moonrise Kingdom and traveling to Paris, I’m feeling a little bit Frenchie right about now…and nothing is more French than Jean-Luc Godard. I love French New Wave films especially Pierrot le Fou with it’s amazing color palette of primary reds, blues, and whites. The story is a bit random as it follows a bored husband/father escape his homelife while he runs away with his his babysister who is on the run from Algerian hitmen. Even still, it is nothing less than a classic. It is one of the most chic movies I’ve ever seen, but what more could you expect from the French??? As retro as the movie is, the fashion is totally current and the style is a personal fave…If you haven’t seen it, check out the amazing film stills below and watch the trailer as well. And if you have seen it, maybe revisit it for a little fashion inspiration.

HOT HOT Summer!

So after a week of 90 degree weather in New York, which always feels much worse than it actually is, all I want to do is be on a beach somewhere in the Mediterranean…and these photos are exactly what I’m talking about! Massimo Vitalli’s beach scenes are so gorgeous (unfortunately this post does not do them justice though), they make me want to be wherever he is! Italian born Vitalli prefers to depict the “cosmetic fakery, sexual innuendo, commodified leisure, deluded sense of affluence, and rigid conformism” in his scenes of the Italian Beachside. Whatever you wanna call it, I could totally go for some commodified leisure right about now without or without any delusions of affluence. See his beautiful photos below and check out his website www.massimovitali.com. which has a peaceful soundtrack of the ocean waves. I sometimes listen to it for hours just for kicks…
